The Pokémon Company has unveiled its 30th anniversary Trading Card Game set, slated to debut in September.

Each 30th Celebration booster pack will feature one of thirty exclusive foil cards, all spotlighting Pikachu and each rendered by a distinct artist.

The set introduces a fresh rarity tier called Futuristic Rares, with Mew and Mewtwo as the inaugural Pokémon to receive this new status.

All Futuristic Rare cards will showcase fresh artwork by celebrated Japanese illustrator Yoshirotten. “These cards will portray Pokémon in striking visuals that evoke hope toward an unknown future,” the company explained.

The collection will launch worldwide on September 16, marking the first time a major Pokémon TCG set releases simultaneously across all regions in franchise history.

Analysis: A synchronized global release streamlines marketing, reduces regional disparities, and heightens anticipation, positioning the anniversary set as a pivotal event for collectors and players worldwide.

As per The Pokemon Company’s announcement, the classic cards featured in the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG): 30th Celebration booster packs will not be compliant with the Standard format but will be eligible for formats that permit the original prints of these cards. This move is expected to stir up a mix of excitement and confusion among avid TCG players.

In addition to this, classic cards from previous expansions, including the iconic Charizard card from the base set, are set to be reprinted within the 30th Celebration packs. A sneak peek at some of the initial cards from the collection can be found in the images provided below.

The latest addition to the Pokémon gaming universe, Pokémon Pokopia, made its debut earlier this year on Nintendo Switch 2. VGC’s review hailed it as the “best Pokémon spinoff ever.” The game has been praised for its life simulation elements that seamlessly blend the best aspects from genre leaders, transforming into an adventure that captivates both Pokémon enthusiasts and fans of cozy games alike.

In February, the Pokémon series unveiled its forthcoming titles, Pokémon Winds and Waves, slated for release on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
