Sega and Two Point Studios have handed existing owners of Two Point Museum a compelling reason to return to their parks, releasing the opening stage of the upcoming Rides and Relics expansion free last week. The early-access preview arrives ahead of the full campaign’s launch on Oct. 8 across PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version slated for a later date. Normally such expansions ease players into their new mechanics through a gradual first stage, reserving the most ambitious content for later chapters — but this initial taste already packs in enough depth to justify its own release.

The preview demonstrates how Two Point has evolved beyond simply recreating the nostalgia of older park-simulation titles. Rather than reproducing something familiar and calling it complete, the studio uses those memories as a launching point for genuinely new systems, layering fresh strategic complexity on top of beloved conventions.

Nostalgia Reimagined Through New Mechanics

At its core, the expansion builds on the foundational ideas of Theme Park, yet it pushes those concepts further. Players place a new ride in their park and construct a queue for it, but both queue size and placement carry real consequences. A queue that is too short leaves guests sitting idle rather than riding — a problem given that every ride charges a fee. In the absence of the donations offered by standard exhibits, these ride revenues become essential to keeping the museum-park solvent.

Rides confer a “thrilled” status on guests, which combines with overall happiness to extend how long visitors remain in the park. But there are limits: over-thrilling guests makes them more likely to feel ill, echoing the unmistakable chaos of vomit-filled toilet blocks that defined Theme Park’s busiest afternoons. Two Point has remembered this detail faithfully, balancing thrills against calmer activities such as traditional exhibits and installable perks that reduce rides’ toll on visitors.

Expeditions and Mascots Get a Strategic Overhaul

The preview also refines systems the studio acknowledges were weaker in earlier content. Expeditions previously rewarded players with improved ride blueprints and perks, but building multiple near-identical science contraptions felt repetitive. Two Point has addressed this by letting players raise survey levels at expedition sites to unlock better blueprints while improving existing rides at no additional cost. Perks remain randomly selected from available options, though they now deliver tangible improvements rather than cosmetic flourishes.

Mascots have likewise gained strategic depth. Divided into theme types, they generate general buzz and keep guests content during long queue waits — a role that proves especially valuable when squeezing extra enjoyment out of slower exhibits. New expedition locations unlock mascots usable across other museums and exhibit categories, encouraging players to mix display types and think carefully about placement for bonus effects.

The Rides and Relics teaser certainly did its job. I hardly needed an excuse to keep playing Two Point Museum, but this little taster guaranteed I’ll be seated when the full expansion launches on Oct. 8.

Roller Coasters and Release Details

The campaign’s first phase ultimately builds toward roller coaster construction, an involved process that grants considerable control over heights and angles even with the starter coaster. Players can experiment freely with twists and banking as they prepare for more ambitious designs in later chapters.

Rides and Relics arrives in full on Oct. 8 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, while the Switch 2 version will follow at a later date. The free preview remains available to anyone who already owns Two Point Museum, offering both a welcome return trip for veterans and an accessible introduction for newcomers curious about what the expansion has in store.
