The original Tomb Raider game celebrated its 30th anniversary this weekend, marking the 3D platforming adventure’s release on Sega Saturn — yes, it came to Sega’s doomed 3D console before its PlayStation and PC release a month later. To mark the occasion, developers Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog, and publisher Amazon Game Studios, revealed a new look at the game originally meant to celebrate that milestone: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.

Released this weekend at the TR30 Derby and MCM London, the latest sneak peek at the Tomb Raider remake is full of nostalgic moments made even more spectacular — or at least much more graphically realistic.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis revisits iconic locations
The latest look at Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis showcases the game’s four major locations — Peru, Greece, Egypt, and Atlantis — and some of their most memorable moments. That includes the giant Atlas puzzle, the monstrous Atlanteans that Lara has to fight, and the unfortunate consequence of stepping on the hand of King Midas’ statue. If you have been curious about what a cursed, golden Lara looks like with modern technology, look no further.

While much of what’s on display is classic Lara Croft, including the incredible acrobatics she employs during gunfights, Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog aren’t doing a one-to-one remake with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. The remake will include plenty of gameplay modernizations too, such as a “Focus” meter, skill trees, and crafting.
“When you’re taking damage, dealing damage, dodging attacks, you’re building your Focus meter,” game director Raul Siquera explained this summer. “Focus allows you to slow down time around you and showcase some of the things that Lara used to do in 1996.” In practice, this lets players unlock more of Lara’s iconic acrobatic moves after building Focus.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on Feb. 12, 2027. While Lara’s look in the Tomb Raider remake is her classic shorts and tank top look, players who prefer Ms. Croft’s Survivor trilogy look can get that costume as a pre-order incentive. The game’s deluxe and collector’s edition versions offer 48-hour early access, if you’re really itching to revisit the original Tomb Raider.
After Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Crystal Dynamics has another Lara Croft adventure planned with Tomb Raider: Catalyst. That game, also slated for 2027, “marks a bold direction for the series as Lara Croft embarks on a new adventure across Northern India.” Tomb Raider: Catalyst is set “in the wake of a mythical cataclysm that has unleashed ancient secrets and awakened the mysterious forces that guard them.”
