When I was doing research for this article, I had it in my head the original Tomb Raider on PS1 was likely a maximum of eight hours long, like most action-adventure titles of the generation.

To my surprise, though, checking How Long to Beat revealed it to be a meaty adventure at roughly 15 hours long!
Because of that, the PS5 remake isn’t quite as impressive in its predicted playtime: the developer believes a playthrough should take anywhere between 14 and 16 hours. Experience director Jeff Adams shared the estimate with MP1st and added: “We’ve intentionally built a world that’s meant to draw you in and make you curious to explore, so you don’t have to put a timer on yourself.”
As an aside, a new teaser trailer for the PS5 remake was also released over the weekend, viewable below:
Releasing for PS5 on 12th February 2027, we saw Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis in action at Gamescom a couple of months ago said: “While the acrobatic Lara Croft of old is very much back, the dev has decided to import the skill trees and crafting from the survivor trilogy, noting it doesn’t make sense for the heroine to be discovering medkits in a decades-old cave.”
We continued: “Fair point, but I’d argue it’s equally immersion-breaking to be cooking up broths with vegetables she’s pilfered from dusty old ceramic pots. It’s not a big deal, but I felt myself furrowing my brow at some of the things being said during the presentation.”
I suspect this will be an experience with a straightforward Platinum Trophy, so you’ll want to be finding the collectibles on your journey, which should stretch the playtime a bit more.
