With Sony phasing out disc support by 2028 and Microsoft likely to follow suit, the question of whether The Witcher 4 will even be available on physical media has been swirling around the gaming community. CD Projekt’s joint CEO, Michał Nowakowski, addressed this directly in an interview with The Game Business, stating that the studio “has no influence” on the decisions made by console manufacturers.
“The discs for the first parties, including PlayStation, have to be manufactured in their own factories. So, if they stop manufacturing indeed by 2028, then yes [we won’t have a disc],” Nowakowski explained. This seemingly confirms that while CD Projekt would prefer to offer a physical release, it’s ultimately out of their hands.

“We’re nerds ourselves, and we like that. We always supported that. So, whatever is the case, we’re going to be for sure having a box. We’ll have a box that’s going to have some feelies in it,” he teased. “Something you’re going to be wanting to open up and enjoy.” This promise of bonus content ensures that even without a physical disc, players will still receive a special edition experience.
