The Witcher 3 Won’t Take a Break: Epic Adventure Continues

When we thought Geralt of Rivia was finally enjoying a quiet retirement in Toussaint, CD Projekt RED has thrown a massive new adventure at us. The Polish studio has decided that the witcher’s downtime is a thing of the past, confirming a third official expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt—the RPG that defined a generation and sold over 60 million copies.

Dubbed Songs of the Past (Canciones del Pasado), the new chapter will once again place us in Geralt’s seasoned boots. The release is slated for 2027 and will arrive exclusively on the current console generation: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The fact that the base game debuted in 2015 makes this a rare instance of a major title receiving canonical, heavyweight content more than a decade later.

To tackle this mammoth project without neglecting the development of the next Witcher saga, CD Projekt RED has partnered with Fool’s Theory—a studio composed of industry veterans who originally crafted The Witcher 3. In fact, they are the same team entrusted with the upcoming remake of the first game. Their deep understanding of the series’ DNA gives us confidence in the quality of the writing and mission design we can expect.

For now, the plot remains tightly guarded. It’s unclear whether the story will directly follow the events of Blood and Wine, jump through time, or explore a parallel narrative buried in Geralt’s memories. The studio has announced that more details will be released in late winter 2026 (summer in the Northern Hemisphere).

Reintroducing the “golden egg” hen may seem like a risky move, yet when it comes to crafting expansions that feel like full-fledged games, CD Projekt RED is unrivaled.
