The Witcher 3 Confirms “Songs of the Past” Expansion & Geralt’s Return!

Rumors have been confirmed: Geralt of Rivia is back, and The Witcher: Wild Hunt is set to receive fresh content. In a recent press release, CD Projekt RED unveiled Song of the Past, a new expansion for its celebrated RPG, which has already shipped over 60 million copies worldwide since 2015.

This will be the third DLC to join the ranks of Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, promising even more adventures for the White Wolf. Fans, however, will need to exercise patience, as the new content is slated to arrive in 2027, with updated system requirements for PC players.

CD Projekt RED had originally planned to announce the expansion during its scheduled livestream today, but a leak forced the studio to reveal the news prematurely. The company confirmed that Song of the Past will launch next year, further expanding the universe of its beloved RPG.

The expansion is set to launch sometime in 2027 and will be available exclusively on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The studio ruled out support for the previous‑generation consoles, and there are currently no indications that the expansion will reach Nintendo platforms.

To play The Witcher: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077, players will now need Windows 11, as Microsoft has halted continuous security updates for Windows 10 and the studio prefers to avoid any compatibility risks.

Fans of both franchises will also have to abandon traditional hard drives in favor of solid‑state drives (SSDs) to ensure smooth gameplay, and they must use DirectX 12. Additionally, CD Projekt RED has clarified that it will only support processors and graphics cards that are compatible with Windows 11.

Beyond Song of the Past, CD Projekt RED is already charting the next chapter for the series. The Witcher IV is set to push the saga further with a fresh adventure starring Ciri, marking the beginning of a new trilogy slated to span the next six years.

The studio is also working on a remake of the original The Witcher, which will refresh Geralt of Rivia’s first adventure with gameplay tweaks, enhanced graphics, and more. The project has proven challenging, as the team encountered a naming error from decades ago.
