The Top 10 Xbox Backwards Compatibility Requests After 900,000 Votes

At various points throughout this year, we’ve examined the top 10 Xbox backwards compatibility requests (after 350,000 and 750,000 votes) using the unofficial Xbox Game Preservation website, a source that we know the Xbox team has paid attention to in the past.

Now that we’re approaching the end of the year, the website has amassed over 900,000 votes for new backwards compatible titles, and it has also introduced new categories based on things like indie games.

It should also be noted that Xbox has since announced PC backwards compatibility, so there’s now a new section for those as well. As things stand, those seem the most likely additions to backwards compatibility, although perhaps some console titles could arrive as a result of them too.

The original Xbox list hasn’t actually changed whatsoever since we last reported on it back in July, making it very much the definitive selection of OG Xbox titles that voters want to play on their modern consoles.

1. The Simpsons: Hit & Run
2. Sonic Heroes
3. Jet Set Radio Future
4. Need for Speed: Underground 2
5. Shadow The Hedgehog
6. Def Jam: Fight for NY
7. Sonic Riders
8. Spider-Man 2
9. Ultimate Spider-Man
10. Burnout 3: Takedown

The Xbox 360 list is also still absolutely dominated by Skylanders games, while Transformers and a couple of other titles prop up the list. At this point, both the OG Xbox and Xbox 360 requests barely seem to be shifting at all.

1. Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure
2. Skylanders: Giants
3. Skylanders: Swap Force
4. Skylanders: Trap Team
5. Skylanders: SuperChargers
6. Skylanders: Imaginators
7. Transformers: War for Cybertron
8. Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
9. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
10. Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005)

The “Non-Franchise” list has actually changed a little bit, but only in terms of the order of the top ten. Alpha Protocol remains at the top along with Wet, but The Saboteur has jumped from sixth to third (replacing Eternal Sonata), while Singularity and Darkwatch have also swapped places.

1. Alpha Protocol
2. Wet
3. The Saboteur
4. Gun
5. Brute Force
6. Eternal Sonata
7. Darkwatch
8. Singularity
9. Remember Me
10. Lollipop Chainsaw

Next we’ve got the “delisted” games that people want to see brought back in digital form.

1. Left 4 Dead 2
2. Left 4 Dead
3. Batman: Arkham Origins
4. The Orange Box
5. Mortal Kombat
6. Sonic CD
7. Forza Horizon
8. Sonic & Knuckles
9. Jet Set Radio
10. LEGO: The Lord of the Rings

Now for a new category! Only a few votes have been submitted for “Indie 游戏” so far, but these are the titles that voters would love to see make a comeback in the future.

1. Castleminer Z
2. Castleminer
3. Akane the Kunoichi
4. The Impossible Game
5. Total Miner: Forge
6. Amazing Princess Sarah
7. Beat Hazard
8. One Finger Death Punch
9. Bleed
10. Avatar Warfare!

And finally, onto the most important category of all – backwards compatibility on PC. This is the one that’s most likely to attract the attention of Xbox, as they’ve announced that more BC titles will be added to PC going forward.

1. Fable 2
2. Banjo-Kazooie
3. Sonic Unleashed
4. Gears of War 2
5. Banjo-Tooie
6. Gears of War 3
7. Fable 3
8. Ninja Gaiden Black
9. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
10. Lost Odyssey

With all of this in mind, we still don’t reckon that Xbox is going to make a major push in terms of console backwards compatibility (at least until Project Helix rolls around) but PC is undoubtedly getting a focus right now, and it’d be amazing to see the likes of Fable 2 and Lost Odyssey playable through backwards compatibility on that platform.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on the selection here? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.
