The base game becomes just a corner of the map once you’ve got Charting the Unknown installed.
A video has helped put its size into context. As seen below, it starts zoomed in on a region from the original title, and then slowly zooms out. You see the whole map from the base game, and then it keeps going. When fully zoomed out, the original game becomes just a corner of the entire map — it takes up maybe a quarter of the total space in Crimson Desert now.
Obviously, it’s important to note most of this new playable space is the ocean, and there are a decent number of islands dotted around it that you’ll be able to explore.
However, the Charting the Unknown expansion also adds underwater exploration. You can build a ship and sail Crimson Desert’s seas, and choose to go underwater in your diving suit at any point. There could well be hundreds of treasures hidden beneath the surface of this new map.
As well as these new exploration options and expanded map size, the DLC also adds three post-game questlines, one for each playable character. You’ve got to beat the base game to play them, which already takes up hundreds of hours of free time.
At this point, could you consider Crimson Desert a “forever game”? It seems like it’s already there.
