In the game, players assume the role of Edward Walker, a former detective who retreats to a secluded forest resort promising therapy, tranquility, and healing. Beneath the veneer of a peaceful getaway lies a darker reality, compelling Edward to delve into the lives of the other patients, unravel the retreat’s hidden truths, and confront his own past through investigative prowess.
Studio Abattoir promises a meticulously crafted, hand‑painted open world brimming with exploration opportunities, dialogue choices that branch into multiple narrative paths, a customizable skill and perk system, and a “Stalker System” that can turn seemingly harmless residents into relentless predators if the player missteps.
For a debut, solo‑developed title, The Pines already feels remarkably polished, and it has quickly become a standout project that I will continue to monitor closely as development progresses.
