•The tutorial owl Kaepora Gaebora, long regarded as one of the most frustrating characters in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, appears to be far less talkative in the Nintendo Switch 2 remake.
Ahead of a preview event for the remake, concerns circulated among players about encountering the owl again. During the session, which allowed limited time to explore both Hyrule Field and Hyrule Castle Town, the conversation with Kaepora Gaebora reportedly came across as short rather than the drawn-out exchange that had become infamous in the original.
The original game’s version of the owl became a subject of ridicule for forcing players through lengthy monologues. Players who already understood how the map worked were required to repeatedly press the A button, only to be asked whether they wanted to hear everything again—a loop many found tedious and hard to escape.
In this year’s preview, however, the owl reportedly surprised attendees by keeping things brief. According to reports from Eurogamer, no mention of the map was made during the exchange, and the conversation ended quickly with the owl flying away.
The remake is scheduled for release on 5th November. Exactly how talkative Kaepora Gaebora remains in the final version will only become clear once players can experience it firsthand.
