As a newcomer to the Grand Theft Auto universe, I was blown away by the level of detail showcased in the recent 26-minute gameplay presentation for GTA 6, streaming on Netflix. While Lucia’s stunning hair and the vibrant world of Leonida captivated me, it was a seemingly insignificant moment that truly resonated: Jason grabbing a drink from the fridge.
A Deep Dive into the Fridge
What’s going on in there? Is everything okay? This fridge is a window into their lives, and what I see isn’t exactly healthy. While we don’t know where they are in the story, the contents of this fridge suggest more than just a temporary residence. The sticky notes from Lucia, like “HYDRATE!”, “NO MORE SNACKING,” and “You are STRONG,” paint a picture of someone trying to maintain a lifestyle, even amidst criminal activity.
And then there’s the food (or lack thereof). We have Sprunk and eCola, returning from previous GTA games. There’s also a variety of alcoholic beverages, including “Logger” beer and “Lavazas.” Smoothies in “Blitz Berry” and “Blitz Green” flavors are present, along with a protein shake. Stronger alcohol options like Triple Sec and strawberry liqueur are also visible. A half-empty water bottle completes the picture, alongside a tub of salted butter – the only remotely edible item.
Jason and Lucia, you need to eat better! The rest of the kitchen offers little solace. A recipe for scrambled eggs is visible on a sticky note, but none of the ingredients are in the fridge. The “Pick up” list includes items like Wipes, Strips, Pads, Highlighter, and “Treats for the baby” (presumably a dog, given the “WOOF” floor mat). There’s a toaster, a cutting board, and a microwave, but nothing resembling real food.
The spice situation is equally concerning. Paprika, turmeric, chili powder, and a green dried herb are stored on the windowsill in direct sunlight – a recipe for disaster! This isn’t just lazy design; it’s a deliberate choice to highlight the characters’ lifestyle.
I don’t think this is Rockstar just leaving things out because it’s too much work. Someone thought about this fridge and kitchen setup, and the point is that these two characters are likely eating like crap. Jason, Lucia, let me cook you something with vegetables! You’re making piles of money; you deserve better.
