Eight years after its announcement, The Elder Scrolls 6 has finally been made official: the next entry in Bethesda’s long-running series will be titled Sentinel.
The name was unveiled in a video marking Bethesda’s 40th anniversary, narrated by Todd Howard, who reflected on the studio’s first game, Gridiron—Bethesda was heavily into sports games in its early days—before transitioning to The Elder Scrolls series, the games that carried it into the big leagues in the early 1990s.
“As we’re here in the 40th anniversary, we think about all of the games we’ve made,” Howard says as the video draws to a close.

“And so even though yes, we’re looking back, we’re also looking forward to all we’re doing, particularly with the Fallout franchise and obviously The Elder Scrolls. You know, everybody’s always asking about Elder Scrolls 6. And we thought, hey, given the moment, what a perfect time to tell you what The Elder Scrolls 6 is actually called.”
And thus the title was revealed: Sentinel.
There is an intriguing quote following the title reveal: “The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.” These words were spoken by Autor, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell in the year 4E 206, which UESP noted places Sentinel at least five years after the events of Skyrim.
No further details were revealed, but the title (and that quote) presumably also points to the setting: Hammerfell, home of the redguards. Sentinel is itself one of Hammerfell’s major kingdoms and the capital of the Alik’r Desert—reflected in the teaser’s sandy backdrop. It represents a notable geographical shift from the flyover of generic mountains seen in that 2018 reveal, although the Alik’r is bordered by the Dragontail Mountains, so who knows.

So there you have it! The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel. Hopefully it won’t take another eight years before we hear anything more about it.
