Bethesda Game Studios has officially announced the subtitle for The Elder Scrolls 6. The long-awaited follow-up to Skyrim will be called Sentinel, making its official title The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel. A logo has also been revealed. Both come as part of a video message from longtime franchise director Todd Howard as Bethesda celebrates its 40th anniversary.
The confirmation follows a report from last week that has proven to be quite correct. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma got a demo of The Elder Scrolls VI earlier this summer, and teased the subtitle in her post by replacing the name we now know to be Sentinel with eight asterisks. Turns out those asterisks were very specific then, as Sentinel is of course eight letters.
Sentinel is a city within the province of Hammerfell on the continent of Tamriel, where The Elder Scrolls is set. It sits on the northwest coast, nestled beside Iliac Bay. Hammerfell, meanwhile, is located due west of Cyrodiil, where Oblivion took place, and southwest of Skyrim (speaking of which, Bethesda notes that The Elder Scrolls 5 is “still Bethesda Game Studios’ most played game” – and we clarified with Bethesda that this is referring to total lifetime players). Its northern border is shared with the province of High Rock, and its western edge meets the Abacean Sea.

For now, though, at least we’ve got the Sentinel name, and we’ll have to cross our fingers that we get a proper reveal at next year’s Xbox Showcase in June. Here’s the full 40th anniversary studio walkthrough with Howard:
