The Blood of Dawnwalker: Console Performance Locked at 40fps, No 60fps Option at Launch

Bandai Namco and developer Rebel Wolves have unveiled console gameplay footage for The Blood of Dawnwalker, confirming a performance ceiling that’s sure to spark debate among players. While the game promises a visually stunning experience on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, it appears a 60fps mode is not part of the initial launch plan.

Console Performance Details

The console versions will feature two distinct graphics modes: a “Quality” mode targeting a dynamic 4K resolution at 30 frames per second, and a “Balanced” mode aiming for dynamic 4K at 40fps. Both modes will deliver the same core experience, but with subtle enhancements to visual fidelity.

The decision to forgo a 60fps option, even on current-generation hardware, has understandably drawn mixed reactions from the community. Some fans are hoping for a post-launch performance patch that could unlock higher frame rates, while others have expressed a preference for a lower-resolution 60fps mode over the current 4K cap at 40fps.

“60 fps on Pro? C’mon guys,” one user commented on YouTube. Another stated: “It’s 2026, 60 fps is the bare minimum at this point.” While rumors of a potential 60fps patch have circulated, we haven’t been able to confirm anything officially – we’ll keep you updated if and when we receive more information.

The Blood of Dawnwalker benefits from the pedigree of director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, previously game director on The Witcher 3 and head of production and secondary game director on Cyberpunk 2077.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is due September 3rd. We played four hours of it recently and Bertie was enormously encouraged by it. He thought “the combat had depth and that the game’s big ideas around sandbox freedom and time being limited worked really well. It’s already one of the more interesting RPGs of recent years; potentially it’s another breakout success”.
