Unveiled at Japan’s Tokyo Toy Show, the Tamagotchi Ring is Bandai’s attempt to merge fashion and functionality. This isn’t just a miniaturization; it’s a complete reimagining of the virtual pet experience. Measuring a mere 23mm x 28mm (roughly 0.9inch x 1.1inch), this tiny device packs in all the essential features: buttons, a screen, and enough processing power to keep your digital critter happy. The promotional images show people wearing it while holding cake and other items, ensuring you won’t forget to feed or play with your virtual pet.
But the Tamagotchi Ring is more than just a tiny gadget; it’s a fashion statement. With the resurgence of Y2K aesthetics and the nostalgic appeal of the original Tamagotchi, Bandai has cleverly positioned this device as both a playful toy and a stylish accessory. They’re partnering with artists and fashion brands, including Uniqlo, to expand the franchise beyond traditional toys.
The Ring is available in three color combinations: pink and pearl white, light blue and metallic gold, and black and metallic silver, allowing you to match your virtual pet to your personal style. Currently, it’s only available on the company’s official website, and the initial pre-order run sold out quickly.
