Table Tennis Beast Lucía Has Returned To Torment Players Again In Switch Sports Resort

If you aren’t already sweating, you’re probably missing a bit of context. Lucía is a Mii who has appeared throughout the Wii series since the original Wii Sports, where she was a rather mediocre athlete. In Wii Sports Resort, though, she found her form and turned into an absolute monster at table tennis, showing up as the Champion—the final NPC players must defeat before mastering the sport.

When the successor, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, was announced back in June, series fans initially mourned the game’s lack of Miis, with some even saying Wuhu Island had been “colonized” by Sportsmates, the avatars that largely replaced Miis in Nintendo Switch Sports. But Mii NPCs did end up making a partial return in Switch Sports Resort, and players can even crank up their spawn rate so they essentially replace Sportsmates. Most importantly, the iconic Mii Champions from Wii Sports Resort have come back.

Lucía, however, is especially nightmarish to beat, and quite a few players have taken to the internet to commiserate over their table tennis losses at her hands. Take a look at this breakneck-paced clip of a player trying to win a single point against her:

Some players are glad to see the return of the contentious NPC, which has rekindled memories of the Wii era. Others, though, were instantly jaded at the sight of her return:

Other fans shared posts asking whether anyone had actually managed to beat Lucía yet. Some commenters shared their victories, but others joined in the complaining.

One player even shared (via Twitter’s automatic translation) that they had to put on a compress and go to bed after over an hour of nonstop matches against Lucía. Sigh.

I’m off to pick up my copy of Switch Sports Resort tonight. Please keep me in your thoughts, and please send some negative vibes in Lucía’s general direction.
