Switch 2 Hits 1M UK Sales in 30 Weeks—Outpacing Original

Within a remarkable span of just 52 weeks—just shy of its first anniversary—the Switch 2 has achieved a million units sold in the United Kingdom, according to a report by The Game Business. This milestone underscores Nintendo’s continued momentum in the console market, especially when contrasted with the original Switch, which required 82 weeks to reach the same benchmark.

When measured against the broader console landscape, the Switch 2 ranks as the joint sixth fastest-selling system in UK history, and it stands as Nintendo’s second‑fastest title overall. The only consoles that have outpaced it are the Wii and the PlayStation 5, both of which reached the one‑million mark in a mere 39 weeks, followed closely by the PS4 (42 weeks), PS3 (46 weeks), and PS2 (50 weeks).

The publication highlights that this figure is especially striking, given that the United Kingdom has historically been a weaker market for Nintendo.

Although the original Switch ranks as the second best‑selling console worldwide, trailing only the PS2, it occupies the fifth spot in UK sales, behind the PS2, Xbox 360, Wii and PS4.

In its latest quarterly report for the three months ending March 31, Nintendo announced that it shipped an additional 2.49 million Switch 2 units globally during the period, raising the total worldwide sold‑in count to 19.86 million.

These figures confirm that the Switch 2 is maintaining its record‑breaking sales trajectory, solidifying its status as a market leader in the evolving gaming landscape.

In a recent financial report, Nintendo has projected a significant drop in the sales of its upcoming Switch 2 consoles, anticipating a sale of only 16.5 million units within its next business year, contrasting with the 19.86 million units sold in the previous fiscal year ending April 2023.

Furthermore, Nintendo announced last month that it will be increasing the prices of Switch 2 consoles across various regions including the United States, Europe, Canada, and Japan. The price hike in Japan has already taken effect, while other regions can expect to see the increase starting September 1.

On this date, the cost of a Switch 2 console in the US will rise by $50 to $499.99. In Europe, the hardware price will increase by 30 Euros to 499.99 Euros, and in Canada, the console will cost $679.99 – a $50 increase from its current price.
