Authorities are currently searching for an individual who reportedly harassed multiple people while wearing a mask resembling Chucky, the infamous killer doll from the popular horror franchise. This isn’t just some prank gone wrong; police are taking this seriously, classifying it as potential terroristic threats and urging victims to come forward.
The Reign of Terror: Details Emerge
According to Philadelphia Police Captain Jason Smith, the suspect targeted approximately half a dozen victims over a 20-minute period starting around 5:18 AM on Wednesday, August 12th. He reportedly threatened and chased individuals in the City Center area. “During that time span, he was able to accost a good many people, most of which haven’t come forward yet,” Captain Smith told the press. “He’s targeting men and women, just whoever he appears to come across.”
One particularly disturbing incident involved a female jogger who was chased by the masked individual. Reports indicate that the suspect held up his phone in front of her, allegedly asking if she was “ready to die.” Captain Smith also stated that the harasser was filming these interactions “for his own purposes,” highlighting the premeditated nature of the attacks.
Victim Speaks Out: A Kick to the Chest
Speaking with Channel 6 Action News, a woman named Jameka described her encounter with the masked tormentor. She recounted how she managed to fend him off with a kick to the chest. “I figured if anything was going to happen, I wanted to see it with my own two eyes,” she told the outlet. “Then I turned around, I started yelling at him, ‘Don’t follow me,’ and screaming at him. Then at that point, I put up my hands as if I was going to fight. I blocked my face, making sure my center line was protected. And then he also started to put his hands up, but I could tell that he’d never been in a fight before.”
“He just seemed so disoriented about what his goals actually were. I had bags; he wasn’t reaching for those. It didn’t seem like he had a clear goal to like, actually get in La Colombe to do anything, so I was like, ‘Okay, well, let’s see if you can fight’ — and he couldn’t.”
Suspect Description and Charges
CCTV footage captured the suspect pulling down his Chucky mask. While much of his face was obscured by a black facemask and a black beanie, cameras managed to get a clear view of his eyes. Police have described the assailant as a male between the ages of 16 and 20 years old. If apprehended, he will face charges including terroristic threats, harassment, simple assault, reckless endangerment, and intimidation.
