Get ready to fight! A brand new trailer for the upcoming Street Fighter movie has dropped, and it’s packed with action, drama, and some seriously unexpected cameos. From E. Honda unleashing his iconic moves to a brewing rivalry between Ryu and Ken, this trailer gives us a taste of what’s in store when the film hits theaters on October 16th.
E. Honda Brings the Sumo Heat
One of the highlights of this trailer is undoubtedly E. Honda, who gets some serious screen time showcasing his signature moves. We see him facing off against Ryu in his classic bathhouse setting, and he pulls out all the stops: the devastating Sumo Headbutt (which surprisingly doesn’t look completely ridiculous on camera!) and the Hundred Hand Slap. For a moment, it looks like Ryu might be getting pummeled, but then he counters with a Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku, sending Honda flying.
Ryu vs. Ken: A Rift in Their Brotherhood
The trailer also hints at some serious tension brewing between Ryu and Ken. We see them locked in a brawl in a dark alleyway, suggesting that something has driven a wedge between these two legendary fighters. It seems that Ryu’s disappearance to pursue the Dark Hadou has caused friction, as we see him charging up a purple fireball while muttering about “darkness growing” within him. Meanwhile, Ken struggles to even manage a single Hadouken in his luxurious apartment.
“I spent years living in Ryu’s shadow,” Ken says with a determined glint in his eye, promising to “win it all” at the World Warrior tournament orchestrated by the nefarious M. Bison. Bison’s true intentions remain shrouded in mystery, but it seems he plans to exploit the strongest fighters for his own sinister purposes.
Cameos and Cliffhangers
Chun-Li delivers a crucial warning to Ryu, informing him that Ken is in danger and urging him to “fight” and save him. This raises questions about whether this movie will mirror elements of the 1994 animated film, where Bison captured and brainwashed Ken into becoming Violent Ken.
Cody Rhodes also makes an appearance as Guile, bringing a sarcastic and witty personality to the stoic character we know from the games. He shares some humorous lines with Andrew Schulz’s Dan Hibiki, adding a touch of levity to the intense atmosphere. Notably, Roman Reigns appears as Akuma, lifting up Alexander Volkanovski’s Joe with the power of the Satsui no Hadou.
With multiple characters showcased in various action-packed scenes, including Vega (Orville Peck), Balrog (50 Cent), and Cammy (Mel Jarnson), this trailer leaves us wanting more.
