One of the classics that helped create an entire genre, the stealth masterpiece Thief: The Tumma Project is coming to PS5 in a remastered form on 3 December 2026.
This new version of the 1998 game has been remastered using Nightdive Studios’ KEX Engine to produce a new edition running at 4K and 120 frames per second. It includes all the content of the base game, the three extra missions from Thief: Gold, and an entirely new campaign in the form of The Tarnished Mirror.
The Tarnished Mirror is a narrative bridge between The Tumma Project and Thief 2: The Metal Age. In it, “a seemingly straightforward theft spirals into imprisonment, uneasy alliances and a descent into a drowned, R’lyeh-like necropolis. Players will experience an expanded enemy roster, ambitious level design and a pure Thief experience that descends into unsettling, otherworldly horror.”
The bonus campaign has been created by the same people who made Thief: The Black Parade, a mod and expansion for Thief: Gold made by fans. “This collaboration marks a rare industry moment, with Nightdive and Eidos-Montréal welcoming a community creation directly into official canon,” the press release added.
The remastered package also includes the following:
- Modern controller support adds a new weapon wheel, rumble, and motion/gyro controls.
- Trophies.
- A Vault filled with a treasure trove of behind-the-scenes content.
- Graphic enhancements to textures, models, animations and more, along with small fixes to the original level design.
- Quality of life improvements include a weapon and item wheel to quickly select tools and gadgets.
- Replay any mission you have previously completed with a mission selector.
Pre-orders are live on the PS Store for the PS5 digital versions, with a standard edition costing £24.99 / $29.99 and a Digital Deluxe Edition priced at £28.99 / $34.99.
In terms of physical editions, three versions are available to choose from: standard, steelbook, and deluxe trapezoid. The first two are self-explanatory, while the Deluxe Trapezoid edition includes the game, a steelbook, a booklet, a box, and a physical remaster diary for £49.99 / $69.99:
