Electronic Arts will unite its two leading first-person shooter teams—Respawn, behind Apex Legends, and DICE, creator of the Battlefield series—to develop a new Star Wars Battlefront title, according to Variety.

The outlet cites “multiple sources” familiar with the publisher’s plans, though nothing has been officially confirmed.
Earlier this week, a rumour claimed that Lucasfilm was in active discussions with Sony’s Bungie to build a new Battlefront game. That same speculation, however, also floated the idea of DICE returning to the franchise.
Last year, Star Wars Battlefront 2 surged in popularity on the PS4, renewing faith in the future of the series. An all-star development team combining Respawn and DICE would certainly bode well.
Earlier today, EA announced 400 job losses across the company, including the closure of BioWare.
But in a memo, executives Cam Weber and David Timson were bullish about the future of Battlefield and the publisher’s upcoming FPS efforts.
“We’ll be bringing together our Respawn and DICE studios to collaborate on a future project,” the pair said.
That game, reportedly, is Battlefront 3.
