Square Enix Drops New Final Fantasy XIV Online Switch 2 Trailer

Although the clip was fleeting, it delivered the most comprehensive glimpse of the game to date. Since then, Square Enix has unveiled a full gameplay trailer showcasing the online multiplayer experience on the Switch 2, blending rapid action sequences with immersive in‑game cutscenes.

For those who missed the announcement, Final Fantasy XIV will enter an early‑access phase on the Switch 2 in August 2026. The company’s support page outlines the specifics of the early‑access window, and details how players from other platforms can join.

Players new to Final Fantasy XIV on the Switch 2 will need to purchase the game and subscribe to access the full experience.

For fans who have already invested in Final Fantasy XIV on other consoles, the Nintendo Switch 2 version will still require a fresh purchase of the game and a distinct subscription. However, players who still have remaining playtime on other platforms can take advantage of a discounted half‑price subscription for the Switch 2 edition.

To guarantee a smooth launch, Square Enix will open the game to a one‑month early‑access window, during which servers will be fine‑tuned. Once the early phase concludes, the title will officially go live. Importantly, no Nintendo Switch Online subscription is necessary to enjoy Final Fantasy XIV on Switch 2, either during early access or after full release.
