Nier Automata players have been left confused after a new update increased the game’s file size from 50GB to a whopping 366GB, forcing Square Enix to apologize and investigate the issue.

गेम्स have been demanding more and more storage on both PC and console, with new releases like Modern Warfare 4 and Phantom Blade averaging well over 100GB each. Cleaning up space on your SSD has become a routine occurrence for anyone looking to play the latest releases.
However, Nier Automata fans on Steam planning to slash their way through Yoko Taro’s post-apocalyptic adventure were met with an eye-watering storage requirement when Steam demanded 366GB of free space to install the 50GB game.
Square Enix issues update on 366GB Nier Automata bug
The added bloat follows the November 6 update, which added Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean language support. Since then, players have reported that this has caused Steam to incorrectly count the full game’s size for each of the game’s DLCs.
In a post on the official Japanese Nier Automata account, Square Enix apologized to players affected by the issue.
“We are currently investigating the cause and working to resolve the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
For anyone encountering the problem, Square Enix recommends opening Nier Automata’s Properties menu in Steam, selecting DLC, and unchecking the listed content. This temporary workaround allows players to download the base game without having to deal with the inflated storage requirement.
