Sony Unveils Translucent PS5 Controllers and Console Covers

Sony has unveiled a new range of translucent DualSense controllers alongside matching PS5 console covers, reviving transparent styling on PlayStation hardware.

Announced on October 28, the Prism Collection offers three colors drawn from the transparent gaming accessories popular in the late 1990s.

The lineup spans both controllers and console covers, letting PS5 owners coordinate their setups with matching accessories. Sony has also confirmed pricing, release dates, and pre-order details for the new designs.

Sony announces three translucent DualSense controllers

The Prism Collection introduces three transparent color options: Flare Orange, Emerald Green, and Graphite Gray.

Each controller carries a glossy translucent shell that reveals a glimpse of the internal components, paired with a metallic finish across the middle section.

Sony says the designs grew out of its team’s interest in bringing transparent hardware back to PlayStation while showcasing the craftsmanship behind its controllers and consoles.

“We know how much our fans have been looking forward to the return of transparent controllers. We wanted to bring back the iconic see-through trend of the late ’90s in a fresh, modern way that complements the PS5’s industrial design,” said Leo Cardoso of Sony’s Color, Material, and Finish design team.

Satoshi Aoyagi, another member of the design team, explained how the transparent materials influence the look of each color.

“The high-gloss clear finish extends across the back of the controller, offering a look at the technology that powers the DualSense controller while maintaining a sleek, monochromatic look.”

“The metallic finish on the middle cover brings the contrasting surfaces together for a premium appearance that feels consistent with the PS5 generation.”

Sony describes Flare Orange as a vibrant orange with subtle rosy tones, Emerald Green as a deep hunter green, and Graphite Gray as a cool-toned storm gray.
