Sony has unveiled the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in a new Midnight Black finish, though it will be available exclusively in Japan. According to a report for Polygon, the edition was revealed on the Japanese PlayStation Blog and spotted by Push Square.
The console launches Nov. 19 at ¥55,000 (roughly $350). As its name suggests, the new edition wraps both the console and a bundled DualSense controller in a matte-black finish. It is identical to the Japan-exclusive PlayStation 5 Sony launched last year, simply offered in a different color.

The lower price reflects Sony’s effort to offer the console more cheaply than it can in the United States, where import tariffs and trade policies have pushed costs up. For reference, the Digital PS5 sells for $599 in the U.S., and the console has grown more expensive since its initial release.
Purchasers receive the console alongside a matching DualSense controller. A separate disc drive must be bought to play disc-based games; Sony will also sell a Midnight Black disc drive for ¥11,980.
Image: SonySony has already produced limited editions this year, including a Wolverine-themed console and Marathon-themed and Grand Theft Automat 6–themed DualSense controllers. Those designs are more overtly flashy than the new matte-black release.
Players outside Japan cannot buy this specific edition, but existing owners can replicate the look: Sony already sells Midnight Black console covers for $54.
