Sony Doubles Down on China Hero Project, Investing Further in Promising PS5 Titles

While the vast majority of its four million sales have doubtlessly occurred on PC, Sony is currently enjoying a major win with console exclusive Phantom Blade Zero.

And at a press conference held in Shanghai earlier today, the company recommitted to its ongoing China Hero Project, which has now entered its fourth phase.

As reported by Shenzhen-based journalist Daniel Camilo on X (formerly Twitter), the manufacturer has pledged a further $1 million in investment toward upcoming titles such as EXILEDGE, DaBa: Land of Water Scar, and Unending Dawn.

Here is how all three titles are described by Sony:

DaBa: Land of Water Scar

Daba: Land of Water Scar is a beautiful ‘Souls-like’ action adventure that tells the story of a puppet with a humanoid appearance exploring the ancient city of Guge during an imminent apocalypse. By doing battle with a range of horrific enemies he will unravel the story of both this ruined world, and himself.

EXILEDGE

A spectacular third-person shooter game featuring stunning visuals, a deep, emotional story and a rich cast of characters. Set on an apocalyptic planet, players will navigate the treacherous environment and face dangerous enemies in a series of thrilling missions.

Unending Dawn

Unending Dawn is a Mehrspieler open-world action game set in a world ravaged by a catastrophe where survivors struggle against cursed creatures. Embark on the Path of Cognition, confronting the dangers and unknowns of ancient legends to seek the truth – and a glimmer of hope.

Many of these games will launch on PC as well, although Sony will help promote them and bring them to a global audience in return for temporary console exclusivity.

Much like with Phantom Blade Zero, the Japanese giant’s goal appears to be attaching its brand to these titles, as it continues to grow its market share in China – a region primarily dominated by mobile and PC games.

As reported by Camilo, DaBa: Land of the Water Scar is due out in Spring 2027, although no official release date has been confirmed yet. Exiledge will follow later in the year.

These are just a handful of the titles Sony is currently working on, with Loulan: The Cursed Sand, The God Slayer, and more all also on the China Hero Project ledger.

I think this strategy is a multifaceted winner for Sony: not only does it help it infiltrate the huge Chinese market, but it’s also reaping dividends globally, where titles like Phantom Blade Zero are contributing to the PS5’s eclectic and diverse software mix.
