Sony may be taking steps to wind down sales of its PSVR2 headset, as it’s been spotted that the VR device is no longer being sold through some of its official regional outlets and at third-party retailers.

For a few weeks now, fans have been picking up on the fact PSVR2 no longer appears on the official PlayStation Direct website in the USA. I did a search of the website today, and the headset is nowhere to be seen.
If you scroll down the PS5 accessories tab on the USA webpage, you’ll find a PSVR2 heading, but the actual device isn’t there. You only receive options to purchase the charging station, the PC adapter, and a third-party case:
Besides these examples within the PSVR2 tab, I can find absolutely no evidence the VR device exists on the PlayStation Direct site for USA customers. For now, at least, the PSVR2 headset is still for sale on the UK side of PlayStation Direct.
The situation goes further, though, according to Road to VR, which has done a deep dive into regional data relating to PSVR2. According to them, the removal of the headset from regional PlayStation Direct pages began in mid-October, which is when fans started noticing it was gone. The link that should have taken you to the PSVR2 purchase page was producing a 404 error.
As the outlet also highlights, retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart do have stock listed, but it comes from third-party retailers at considerable markups over the normal price of the headset — around $750 at Best Buy.
It appears more difficult than ever to buy a PSVR2 at its recommended retail price.
Of course, PlayStation’s first-party support for PSVR2 has been woeful. Third-parties have brought their games to the VR platform, but Sony called it a day on launch, after Horizon Call of the Mountain, in terms of dedicated PSVR2 titles. Most recently, it sold its VR patents to Meta, which hammered another nail into any VR efforts from Sony in the future.
