According to the seasoned rumor‑monger billbill‑kun—who has a track record of surfacing retail details before official confirmations—a new Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition is slated for a June 23 launch.
The Definitive Edition is expected to bundle every update and downloadable content released to date, while the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 edition will feature a comprehensive technical revamp, surpassing the performance of the original Switch version.
Pricing is set at $49.99 across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and the new Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch 2 edition will also be available in a physical format, though it remains unclear whether other platforms will receive tangible copies.
The first post‑launch update, titled “Sights, Sound and Speed,” debuted in March 2023, introducing new Challenge modes such as Battle Rush and Cyber Space Challenge, alongside a Photo mode and a Jukebox mode.
VGC’s review of Sonic Frontiers praised the title as “the kick‑up‑the‑backside 3D Sonic has been crying out for,” calling it a “truly accomplished effort that hits a lot more than it misses.”
3Review echoed this sentiment, declaring the game a “fine return to form for the series.” They noted that, despite a lukewarm reception earlier in the year, the final iteration of Sonic Frontiers delivers a “brilliantly refreshing adventure that gives the series a much‑needed shake‑up.”
The review also acknowledged occasional control and camera quirks, but highlighted that these issues are now far less frequent, resulting in a noticeably smoother experience. The reviewers expressed a strong desire for more titles of this caliber.
