November’s release schedule is beginning to fill out, and NetMarble has quietly added another title to the calendar: its action RPG adaptation of the hit Korean webtoon, Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive.

Already available on PC, this is a retelling of the original material – with some bonus scenarios for good measure.
While you may be forgiven for expecting a free-to-play gacha game here, this is actually a premium release, with no microtransactions or live service aspects. (Looking at the Xbox store page, there are a couple of small DLC packs available separately from the main game.)
The game can be played single player or in co-op, although it should be noted that the initial batch of reviews – released last year – were brutal.
Gaming Bolt gave this a 4/10, noting: “Netmarble’s action RPG is a shoddy adaptation of the beloved manhwa and a terrible, repetitive experience otherwise.”
Reading through its write up, one of its big criticisms is that you don’t actually get to play many of the iconic moments from the source material; it just defaults to the manhwa to depict those scenes. I’m not sure that’s something that could be easily rectified with updates.
But it has been a year since the PC version dropped, so I’d at least expect the title to be a bit more polished on the PS5. Whether that’s enough – well, we’ll find out next week.
