According to a report by Polygon, the Siren Head film adaptation directed by Brian Duffield has received its first development update. The project was announced in July by The Hollywood Reporter, with Zach Cregger (Resident Evil) and Duffield (Whalefall) writing together.
The announcement comes after this year’s Backrooms proved that online horror stories can translate to box office success. Adapted by YouTuber Kane Parsons for $10 million, the film about liminal spaces grossed over $400 million during its theatrical run.

Siren Head is a tall, thin, skeleton-like creature with a head resembling two sirens. Created by creature designer Trevor Henderson, it began as a cryptid drawing before taking on a life of its own online, inspiring animations and expanded lore from others. Following Backrooms’ success, Hollywood entered what Polygon describes as a “Siren Head frenzy,” erupting in a bidding war that Warner Bros. Pictures won.
The exact stage of development remains unclear. Cregger has been occupied with Resident Evil and his upcoming sci-fi thriller The Flood, starring Jennifer Lawrence, while Duffield is promoting Whalefall on its press circuit. At New York Comic Con, where he was promoting Whalefall, Duffield shared an update on Siren Head.
