Samsung Galaxy XR lands in UK, boasting AI & enterprise upgrades

Samsung is set to roll out its Galaxy XR headset in the UK, arriving months after the device first surfaced as the inaugural headset built on Google’s Android XR platform. The headset was first hinted at in late 2024 alongside Google’s unveiling of Android XR, before officially hitting the market in 2025.

Crafted in partnership with Google and Qualcomm, the Galaxy XR fuses mixed‑reality experiences with Gemini‑powered AI, letting users manipulate digital content through voice, gestures, and visual cues. While the core hardware remains largely unchanged from last year’s reveal, Samsung is using the UK launch to showcase a suite of software upgrades that have been rolled out in recent updates.

The company is also spotlighting mixed‑reality features such as Circle to Search, which lets users identify real‑world objects through hand gestures while the headset’s video pass‑through mode is active. Another capability automatically transforms photos and videos into spatial 3D experiences. Additionally, the headset now supports Android Enterprise, enabling organizations to manage deployments using familiar Android management tools.

Samsung’s UK launch of the Galaxy XR marks a pivotal moment for the company, ushering in a fresh line of AI‑native devices that blend cutting‑edge technology with everyday usability.

Under the hood, the headset runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform and boasts dual 4K Micro‑OLED displays, delivering a visual experience that feels both sharp and natural. Samsung estimates that users can enjoy up to 2.5 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Samsung has pledged that the Galaxy XR will receive ongoing software and security updates, working in partnership with Google and Qualcomm to broaden the Android XR ecosystem.

Pre‑orders for the Galaxy XR are now open, with the device set to hit shelves on 8 July. Those eager to test the headset before its official launch can visit Samsung KX in London and select Samsung Experience Stores starting 17 June. Additionally, the company will stream a live demonstration on 19 June, where the headset’s capabilities will be showcased and questions from potential buyers will be answered.
