Get ready to dust off your park management skills! Atari has officially announced a brand-new installment in the beloved RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise. Developed by Springloaded, the studio behind the charming indie hit Let’s Build a Zoo, this new game is titled RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks and promises to bring a fresh, whimsical take on the classic formula.
A New Era for RollerCoaster Tycoon
While Atari has held the rights to the RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise since the early 2000s (originally acquired from Infogrames), recent years have seen a relative lull in major releases. With Wonderworks, Atari and Springloaded are aiming to reignite the magic, leveraging Steam’s Early Access program to involve the community directly in the development process.
“Early Access allows us to bring this passionate community right into our development process, helping them shape the next great RCT game. We want to hear your ideas! What’s working well? What’s missing? What would you like to see in your ideal RCT experience?” Atari stated.

The development team has a roadmap filled with new parks, attractions, and features planned for the Early Access period, including water-themed content. However, they also emphasize that player feedback will be crucial in shaping the final product.
A Glimpse into Wonderworks
Based on the reveal trailer, RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks appears to retain the core gameplay loop of its predecessors while introducing a brand-new “toy” aesthetic for characters and attractions. The trailer also hinted at the inclusion of other Atari retro properties, with a brief cameo from Bubsy the Bobcat making an appearance in the park (much to the apparent dismay of one server, Kyle Bosman).
Early Access and Beyond
RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks will initially launch as a Steam Early Access title. Atari plans for this phase to last approximately one year. The full 1.0 version is expected to include six different parks and the “classic” build mode, which won’s be available during the Early Access period.
