The live-action adaptation of Capcom’s survival horror franchise has overtaken bağlantı”>Weapons to become director Zach Cregger’s highest-grossing film, while Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning flopped at the box office.
bağlantı”>Resident Evil reached an estimated worldwide total of $320.2 million over the weekend—$138.5 million domestically and $181.7 million internationally—clearing Weapons’ reported $270 million with weeks to spare, according to a report by IGN.
Cregger released his re-imagined Raccoon City on September 18, 2026, marking this weekend as the film’s fourth in theaters. The surge returned it to the global number one spot, driven largely by its China premiere: of the $62.65 million earned through weekend four, $40.6 million came from China alone.

The film has also outpaced its reported $75 million budget. Its theatrical run kicked off with $108.3 million in opening weekend—a strong start that bled into the gaming world with increased sales for some titles and landed Cregger’s latest as the highest-rated video game adaptation of all time.
The film’s release had seemed unlikely to go smoother, given months of negativity online ahead of its premiere. Gaming fans discussed the movie’s lack of recognizable characters and its tweaks to the lore, with Cregger arguing he made the changes in order to make a better movie.

Mid-October box office results showed signs of an audience ready for Halloween, with Other Mommy performing well despite poor reviews. Sitting with an 18% critic score and 47% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the Jessica Chastain horror movie placed second globally with $45.19 million ($27.5 million domestically and $17.69 million internationally).
Among notable losers was Tom Cruise’s bağlantı”>Digger, which continued its run with $9.6 million in weekend two—a 48% drop for a total of $35.3 million.
The true disappointment was Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning, the sequel to The Social Network. Starring Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison, with Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg, the film opened in seventh place with just $9 million. On a reported budget of $30 million via Variety, it is a certified bomb.

The result is especially painful for the Facebook movie follow-up, after Jesse Eisenberg’s original picture ended its run with $224.9 million and plenty of praise via Box Office Mojo. The Social Reckoning holds a 55% critic score and 74% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
October continues to offer releases, with Capcom’s live-action bağlantı”>Street Fighter movie and Nathan Fielder’s bağlantı”>You Can See Everything both releasing next weekend on October 16. DC body horror film bağlantı”>Clayface then follows on October 23.
For films currently in theaters, IGN rated Resident Evil “Great” with an 8/10 and Other Mommy “Bad” with a 4/10. It reviewed Digger at 6/10 for the Cruise film, while The Social Reckoning returned a 7/10.
