There have been numerous reports this week regarding the business side of Xbox, including one suggesting that a group of private equity firms recently valued the Xbox business at between $100 billion and $150 billion.

According to The Information, the discussions were short-lived and never developed into formal negotiations with Microsoft. The firms, however, appeared interested in “exploring” a potential buyout.
A brief overview of the paywalled article is shown below:
A few weeks ago, Asha Sharma insisted that Xbox is not for sale, adding in Fortune’s latest report that she believes Xbox will be “an important part of Microsoft for a very long time.”
The Fortune piece does note, though, that “several current and former staff members believe Xbox is being prepped for an eventual sale, spinoff, outside investment, or conversion into a subsidiary.” It was suggested that a “high-level presentation that explored such scenarios” took place after Asha Sharma became Xbox CEO.
Microsoft executive Judson Althoff sought to calm those fears, stating that Xbox is valuable to the company in many ways and that they would not have placed “one of the best leaders we have” on a business they intend to sell.
In the end, Asha Sharma has stated that Xbox is not for sale, and these “short-lived discussions” never actually materialised into anything. Anything beyond that is currently pure speculation.
