Pokemon Unite is shutting down in March 2027, bringing an end to the free-to-play multiplayer game after more than five years.

The Pokemon Company confirmed the decision on October 27, announcing that service will end on March 23, 2027 for both Nintendo Switch and mobile players. No reason was given for the closure.
What happens when Pokemon Unite shuts down?
In an announcement on the game’s website, the developers confirmed that players will no longer be able to log in or participate in battles once service ends.
“We regret to inform you that service for Pokemon UNITE will end on Tuesday, March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC,” the statement reads.
Sales of Aeos gems, the game’s premium currency, have already been suspended, alongside new Unite Club memberships and automatic subscription renewals. Existing gems can still be spent until the shutdown, while current subscribers will retain their benefits until their memberships expire.

Unite was originally released in 2021.
Before the servers close, a final update on November 12 will introduce a special event allowing players to earn previously released items, including Unite licenses and Holowear.
A new Library feature will also preserve certain aspects of the game after its closure, including unlocked Pokemon, cosmetics, achievements and tournament records.
The Library will also retain access to the Practice Area, where players can view Pokemon moves and Holowear effects. However, the developers haven’t confirmed whether players will still be able to participate in practice battles after the shutdown.

Despite the announcement, the Pokemon Unite Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo tournament will still take place as planned, with qualifiers beginning December 5, 2026.
