The Pokémon Company, in partnership with Aardman Animations—the creative minds behind Wallace and Gromit—has unveiled the first glimpse of the highly anticipated stop‑motion series, Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu.
During the “Lights, Camera, Aardman!” panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, fans were treated to a sneak peek of the pilot episode and early production footage, offering a rare look at the meticulous craftsmanship behind the series.
It remains unclear whether the footage revealed at the festival will be made available to the wider public, but the event also showcased the inaugural key art, spotlighting Pichu, Sirfetch’d, and the newly introduced Fletchling.
The panel confirmed that the narrative will unfold in the Galar region, the same setting that hosts the Pokémon Sword and Shield titles. Sirfetch’d, the evolved form of Farfetch’d, made its debut in those games, adding a layer of continuity for fans.
The newly unveiled Galar region draws inspiration from the United Kingdom, a setting The Pokémon Company describes as “perfectly suited” for its inaugural partnership with the renowned British animation studio Aardman.
Phil Rynda, director of original animation at The Pokémon Company International, expressed his enthusiasm: “It’s an honour to join Aardman’s panel at Annecy and discuss our shared dedication to quality, compelling storytelling, unforgettable characters, and a sincere respect for fans.”
He added that the partnership offers a rare chance to narrate Pokémon stories from the creatures’ own perspective, thanks to Aardman’s exceptional craftsmanship and heartfelt affection for the beloved franchise, evident in every meticulously crafted frame.
Aardman’s legacy includes iconic stop‑motion works such as Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, Timmy Time, and Morph, underscoring the studio’s expertise in bringing whimsical worlds to life.
Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu promises an epic odyssey across the untamed landscapes of Galar.
In the game, the duo sets out on a valiant mission to aid and safeguard Pokémon throughout the region.
