The Persona series continues to make waves, and the long-awaited remake, Persona 4: Revival, is finally on the horizon. Following in the footsteps of Persona 3: Reload, this title reimagines the original game with updated graphics, new combat features, and some story adjustments that address certain controversial elements. Based on what we’ve seen so far, Inaba town looks incredibly charming in this fresh take.
A Visual Feast
Atlus has once again delivered a visually stunning experience with Persona 4: Revival. The menus are particularly well-designed, and the game maintains its respect for the original while incorporating a distinct analog TV aesthetic throughout. Furthermore, the graphics represent a significant leap forward compared to the PS2 era. Environments are more detailed, character models look fantastic in 3D, and new anime scenes and 3D animation sequences have been added. Fans who appreciate the visual style of Persona 5 and Persona 3: Reload will feel right at home with this title.
Voice Acting Excellence
The voice acting in Persona 4: Revival features talented performers bringing the original characters to life. While new voices may have been used for some characters, the actors successfully capture the tone and energy of their counterparts. This ensures that players will feel a strong connection to the familiar cast.
Combat System Enhancements
One of the most notable changes in the combat system is the introduction of Baton Pass. Originally introduced in Persona 5 and later added to Persona 3 Reload, this feature allows characters to pass their turn to others, enabling powerful combos. Atlus seems determined to make Baton Pass a core element of the Persona combat experience. Another new mechanic is Prime Time. This feature utilizes a timer that fills over time, granting players various advantages when full. Players can unleash unlimited skills, change Personas, and even execute Showtime attacks to overwhelm their opponents. Prime Time appears to be a powerful tool for players to utilize in challenging encounters.
While the additional features offered by Prime Time are welcome additions, it’s difficult to say that it fundamentally changes the Persona 4 combat system. In the past, certain mechanics introduced in special or remake versions of Persona games have sometimes led to battles becoming overly easy. We can say that Prime Time doesn’t seem to have this effect, but it’s also hard to call it a groundbreaking new feature that will truly excite players.
Atlus has proven itself as a company capable of delivering high-quality remakes of Persona games. Based on what we’ve seen so far, Persona 4: Revival appears to be a nostalgic yet modern take on the original game, featuring updated graphics and some new gameplay mechanics. We eagerly await the official release to see if Atlus has any more surprises in store for us.
