In today’s generative AI landscape, every leak that surfaces should be treated as just that—a leak—until proven otherwise. That said, it does appear a remake of the first Persona game may be on the horizon, with footage supposedly surfacing that shows it in action.

The leaked footage was posted yesterday to the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, originally uploaded to the file-sharing site Gofile on Halloween—October 31st. Not surprisingly, stylistically it aligns closely with the vibe of contemporary Persona, echoing the visual design established with Persona 5 and carried through to the Persona 3 and 4 remakes.
Persona: Be Your True Mind remake gameplay leak

There isn’t a whole lot of footage to examine—just under two minutes in total. One segment shows the game’s protagonist walking through a school at night before a battle begins. Again, the battle system looks as expected from Persona, being turn-based and so on. The colour theme here is overwhelmingly purple, which at least lines up with the series’ 25th anniversary artwork. What’s perhaps slightly odd is that Persona 2’s protagonist can be seen in battle; it’s unclear whether this implies a combination of the two games, that two remakes are being made in tandem with a temporary use of assets, or if it’s simply an odd placeholder.
Remakes of Persona 1 and 2 wouldn’t exactly come as a surprise. Ashley interviewed series producer Kazuhisa Wada not too long ago, and he literally said “Persona 1 and 2 are something we’ll probably eventually do too.” A knowing tease from Wada, perhaps? Who knows! Either way, the gameplay on display here looks believable, and Sega is leakier than a broken faucet (various Persona bits have leaked in the past too), so it’s worth keeping an eye on at the very least, even if best taken with a pinch of salt.
