Original Arcade Tekken Set for Console Launch This Week

Namco’s classic fighting title is set to re-enter the modern market as part of Hamster Corporation’s Arcade Archives 2 lineup, a collection that revives beloved retro arcade and console gems for contemporary audiences.

Arcade Archives 2: Tekken will hit shelves this Thursday, June 25, launching on the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

The original Tekken debuted in arcades in December 1994, with a PlayStation port following shortly thereafter.

This pioneering one‑on‑one fighter was the first to run on Namco’s System 11 arcade board, itself derived from prototype PlayStation hardware.

Despite Sony’s frequent reissues of the PlayStation edition, the arcade incarnation of the title has only resurfaced in the West once—nestled as a hidden bonus mode within Tekken 5 on the PS2.

Hamster Corporation has been methodically reintroducing classic Namco System 22 games to modern audiences, already bringing seven titles to market, including Ridge Racer, Air Combat 22, Aqua Jet, Tokyo Wars, Rave Racer, Cyber Commando and Ace Driver.

Now, the collection expands with the inaugural Namco System 11 title, marking a significant milestone for the Arcade Archives series and hinting at a promising pipeline of future re-releases such as Tekken 2, Soul Edge, Dunk Mania, Xevious 3D/G, and Pocket Racer.

Notably, this title will be exclusive to the Arcade Archives 2 lineup on current‑generation consoles, bypassing the traditional Arcade Archives releases for Switch and PS4. The decision reflects the intensive processing required to emulate System 11 hardware smoothly, ensuring a polished experience for contemporary players.

Every title in the Arcade Archives collection comes equipped with a trio of classic play styles: the original mode that faithfully recreates the arcade experience, a high‑score mode that keeps you on the edge of defeat until you finally hit Game Over, and a time‑limited caravan mode that challenges you to rack up the highest points within a set window.
