Ubisoft has announced Rayman Legends Retold during the June 2026 State of Play event. This new 2D platformer serves as both a remake of Rayman Legends and a reboot for the series on its 30th anniversary. The game features redesigned graphics and music, new levels, an unexplored world, animated cinematic sequences, and a greater emphasis on storytelling to shape the future of the Rayman universe. Scheduled for release on October 1, 2026, it will be available on PC, Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S at a price of €39.99. You can view the first trailer and screenshots below.

Analysis: The collaboration between Ubisoft Montpellier (Rayman, Beyond Good & Evil, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown) and Ubisoft Milan (known for Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope) promises an intriguing blend of art styles and gameplay mechanics that could potentially attract a wider audience to the Rayman series.

Artistically, Rayman returns to 3D with stages primarily developed in 2.5D using a tridimensional camera. The game uses the Snowdrop engine (The Division, Star Wars Outlaws), integrating the UbiArt Framework used in Rayman Origins, Child of Light, and Valiant Hearts: The Great War. The world, the Claro de los Sueños, has been recreated while maintaining its original locations and iconic landmarks. Characters and backgrounds have also been redesigned to add vibrancy to the world.

The game features new cinematic sequences that are dubbed in over a dozen languages, including Spanish, as well as more numerous dialogues during gameplay. In cooperative mode for up to four players, characters now converse during the game. These changes aim to expand the Rayman universe and make the world of Rayman Legends feel connected and coherent.

The soundtrack has been expanded with over 50 minutes of new music.

The new phases featuring Rayman, Barbara, and their dragon-riding escapades significantly contribute to the game’s appeal. These sections are unlocked upon completing a world to progress to the next one. Additionally, musical stages absent in the original game have been included, as well as a unique world with unveiled mechanics, among other features Ubisoft is yet to reveal. The mini-game of football returns under the name Kong Foot EVO.

All content from the original game is present in this remake, with the same controls, rhythm, and precision. Thanks to the integration of the Snowdrop engine with UbiArt Framework, developers have been able to incorporate the design of the original levels into the 3D engine used for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
