Reports suggest Nvidia is winding down production of its flagship GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card, diverting the GPU dies that power it toward workstation and data center use. The news arrives amid ongoing supply constraints that have pushed the consumer card’s price far above its launch MSRP.

GPU leaker zed__wang posted on Twitter that there would be “No more GB202 for 5090, confirmed,” then followed up with a quote tweet stating, “All future GB202 supplies are RTX Pro exclusive.”

GB202 is the name of the GPU die powering the RTX 5090. According to TechPowerUp, it has always powered more than just that single card, driving nine distinct workstation and data center GPUs. That context helps explain why Nvidia might prioritize pricier options like the RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell—costing around $18,000—over the consumer flagship.

The RTX 5090 has similarly become scarce at a reasonable price. On Newegg, units have been listed for as much as $9,000 in recent weeks, far above its January 2025 launch MSRP of $1,999.

Nvidia has also signaled a shift toward AI over gaming. The company recently dropped “gaming” from its earnings report and folded it into an “Edge Computing” category.

However, the discontinuation claim remains unconfirmed by Nvidia itself. Similar rumors circulated in February about the RTX 5070 Ti but ultimately proved false. Production on that card did stall as VRAM was prioritized for data centers, but it was never officially discontinued.

The article’s author noted they had requested comment from Nvidia and would update the report if a response arrived.
