Spotify is broadening its spoken‑word library with a fresh “Narrated Articles” feature, curating audio versions of pieces from a wide array of respected publications—Rolling Stone, Vogue, WIRED, GQ, Variety, Pitchfork—and its own editorial team.

The streaming titan guarantees more than 650 long‑form articles in English, each recording running under two hours. Premium subscribers can stream these narrated pieces at no extra cost, as they fall within the standard monthly audiobook allowance, while non‑premium users may purchase individual titles for $1.99 each.

Colleen Prendergast, Licensing Lead at Spotify Audiobooks, described the format as “a natural extension of music” and emphasized that adding shorter, digestible audio helps audiences develop healthier listening habits. The company hopes these bite‑sized files will serve as an inviting gateway to longer audiobooks.

“Narrated Articles” is just one of several recent additions. Earlier this month, Spotify launched “Save to Spotify,” a Go‑based command‑line interface that lets automated AI agents create and upload custom audio directly to the platform.

Spotify is tightening its AI ecosystem by introducing a verification system that safeguards users from low‑quality “AI Slop.” Creators who meet the platform’s standards earn a green checkmark badge, signaling authenticity to listeners, while rogue automated accounts that masquerade as real people are swiftly banned.

In a strategic move to broaden reach, Spotify has teamed up with Apple to embed Apple’s HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) technology into Megaphone and Spotify for Creators. This partnership lets video‑podcast creators who host their shows directly on Spotify push video episodes straight to Apple Podcasts, all without altering their existing publishing workflow. The result is a seamless expansion into a larger listener base across multiple mobile ecosystems, while creators retain their current monetization settings.
