Baldur’s Gate 3 reigns supreme as arguably the best video game adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons, a title fiercely defended by its passionate fanbase. The game’s strength lies in its commitment to player freedom, a branching narrative, and the ever-present thrill of dice rolls determining your fate.

Romance is Off the Table
One of the most beloved aspects of Larian Studios’ masterpiece is its robust romance options. However, despite Warlock being another highly anticipated D&D game in development, it won’t be following suit. Prepare yourselves, internet: you won’t get to witness Kaatri and Tasha getting cozy.

During an interview at Gamescom 2026, Dominic Guay, studio head at Invoke Studios, revealed to Polygon that “romancing is out of the question for now in her life,” because “she has a quest that she’s really dead set on.” While Warlock will still offer an open-world experience, it will be more focused than Baldur’s Gate 3, offering a more streamlined and curated narrative.

“She will meet other characters, not just monsters,” Guay continued. “She’ll kind of have a found family.” He highlighted Skev, an imp who accompanies Kaatri throughout her journey, as an example: “There’s going to be a growing relationship there, but she’s also going to meet other characters, but there’s no actual romancing options within those relationships.”

When questioned about the depth of character development for Kaatri, Guay explained that while “she’s very set on her quests,” players will “discover more and more layers of her personality.” He emphasized the advantage of a written story: “We can really delve into that. We can realize it with the full level of detail in our cinematics and make sure that we nail these critical story beats to tell the story we want to tell.”

So, there you have it. While Warlock draws inspiration from the rich tapestry of Dungeons & Dragons, it aims for a more focused experience, which unfortunately means no romantic entanglements. Another consequence of this design choice is that the game won’t be hundreds of hours long, either.
