If you’ve been following Kirby Air Riders lately, you may have been looking forward to jumping into the game’s new Halloween event this weekend and grabbing some spooky Ghost headwear along the way. Unfortunately, that won’t be happening — Nintendo has cancelled the event.

The event was originally set to run from 28 October until 4 November, but many players reported serious technical difficulties in early matches, with the screen regularly freezing — something that simply won’t cut it in a game as fast-paced as Air Riders.
You can see the issue for yourself below (shared on Bluesky by TAHK0):
This time, Nintendo didn’t have a quick fix ready, so it opted to cancel the event instead. “We have confirmed an issue in the currently ongoing event ‘Trick or Treat!’ where the screen temporarily freezes during gameplay,” a message from Nintendo’s Japanese Support social media account (via machine translation) read this morning. “For this reason, we will be cancelling this event.”
While Nintendo went on to apologise for the cancellation, it said there are plans to hold the event again in the future so that everyone can still earn the themed reward. There is no official confirmation of when it will return at this point, though we’d expect it to come around sooner rather than later.
