Get ready for some bad news, webheads! Nicolas Cage’s unique and stylish take on Spider-Man, “Spider-Noir,” has been unceremoniously canceled by Amazon’s Prime Video after just one season. This marks an early end to Cage’s gritty, black-and-white (or color!) portrayal of the iconic hero.
A Noir Departure
The news, reported by Deadline”>Deadline, comes a mere four months after all eight episodes of “Spider-Noir” Season 1 were unleashed upon the world in May 2026. While the show garnered attention for its distinctive visual style and Cage’s captivating performance, it wasn’t enough to secure a second season.
“Spider-Noir” was Prime Video’s second foray into Marvel series, and while this particular project is over, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down the streamer’s overall plans. Reports suggest that more superhero projects are in development as part of a multi-title deal between Amazon MGM and Sony Pictures Television. While details remain scarce, multiple projects are reportedly in the works, with one potentially nearing a series order.
Critical Acclaim, Limited Longevity
Despite its short run, “Spider-Noir” resonated with both critics and fans. Rotten Tomatoes”>Rotten Tomatoes recorded a respectable 92% favorability score for the show, indicating widespread appreciation for its unique blend of noir detective work and superhero action. IGN also weighed in with an 8/10 review”>8/10 review, praising Cage’s performance and the show’s overall concept.
“Nicolas Cage’s Bogie-meets-Bugs Bunny pulp hero invigorates the highly entertaining, genre-bending Spider-Noir,” we said at the time of its Prime Video premiere. The show followed Cage as Ben Reilly, a private investigator with spider-like abilities navigating the criminal underworld of 1930s New York City. Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, and Karen Rodriguez rounded out the main cast, while familiar Marvel characters like Sandman (Jack Huston) and Tombstone (Abraham Popoola) made appearances.
One of the show’s most innovative features was its ability to be viewed entirely in black-and-white or in color, offering viewers a personalized experience and encouraging repeat viewings. However, this unique selling point ultimately wasn’t enough to sustain viewership long enough for a second season.
Numbers Don’t Lie
According to Deadline, Nielsen recorded 2.6 billion viewing minutes in the first six weeks after its premiere. While this seemed promising initially, the show quickly faded from Prime Video’s top 10 charts, indicating a lack of sustained interest. This ultimately led to the decision to cancel “Spider-Noir.”
The cancellation leaves fans wondering what other Marvel projects might be in store for Amazon, Sony, and Prime Video. While another Spider-Man-related project called Silk: Spider Society”>Silk: Spider Society was once rumored to be in development, it was ultimately canceled”>canceled.
