The eighth installment in the Paranormal Activity series is set for release on May 21, 2027—20 years after the original film and six years after the franchise’s most recent entry. Details about the plot remain undisclosed, but at New York Comic Con it was revealed that the movie will bring fans back to Katie and Micah’s house from the first film.
Jason Blum noted during Blumhouse’s New York Comic Con panel that Paranormal Activity is a particularly emotional project for him, as it was what put Blumhouse on the map. The production company eventually opted to let the franchise go, feeling it had been overdone and bled dry. A few years later, when Atomic Monster’s James Wan suggested making a new movie together, Blum said he was immediately on board.
What did Blumhouse reveal at New York Comic Con?
Reported by various sources, the upcoming Paranormal Activity film will be set in the same house as the first movie. It seems unlikely that Micah and Katie will make an appearance, since nearly two decades have passed since the original Paranormal Activity. However, they could return to haunt the place, as the two met an unfortunate end at the house.

Original director Oren Peli is producing Paranormal Activity 8 alongside James Wan and Jason Blum. Undertone’s Ian Tuason will take the lead as director.
This information wasn’t the only Blumhouse reveal at New York Comic Con, as the studio’s panel brought more exciting horror movie news. Blum revealed that with original creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell involved, the upcoming Saw, directed by Wrong Turn’s Mike P. Nelson, will feel quite different from recent entries in the franchise but closer to the original 2004 movie.
The company is also working with director Craig Zobel (The Hunt) on a film adaptation of the horror comic book Something Is Killing the Children, and with director Mike Flanagan on The Exorcist: Martyrs, which received a trailer and hits theaters on March 12, 2027. Attendees also learned that LaKeith Stanfield will star in a new movie called Molepeople, that Kristen Bell will appear as Ms. Klaus in Violent Night 2, and that MatPat is developing an Amanda the Adventurer film with Blumhouse.
Blumhouse and Atomic Monster shared the upcoming premiere schedule for their production. Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 was absent from the schedule, suggesting its release date is still uncertain or likely beyond 2027. Curry Barker’s next movie after Obsession, titled Anything But Ghosts, is slated for May 7, 2027, while a new Blair Witch Project movie will arrive on Sept. 24, 2027.
