During its first-ever GOG Showcase, GOG confirmed that GOG Galaxy will receive full Linux support in 2027.

“We know this has been a long time coming, but we wanted to do it properly: GOG GALAXY is officially heading to Linux. At the same time, we’ve reworked the client on Windows and Mac to be simpler, run faster, and give you cleaner ways to view your library. Most importantly, our core promise stays untouched: GOG GALAXY is entirely optional. Your games are yours to download and keep through offline installers, exactly as they’ve always been.”

Additionally, the company is developing GOG Social, a revamp of its community experience that resembles a modern social network, offering Steam a bit more competition against the popular Steam Community feature. Regarding it, GOG said:

  • Actual discussions: Post screenshot galleries, videos, and community polls with threaded replies and zero algorithmic noise.
  • Tied to your games: Tag any title from the store so fellow players can jump straight to its page in one click.
  • Your feed, your rules: Use built-in spoiler tags to save first-timers from ruined plot twists, follow specific topics, and tell us directly what we should tweak next during beta.

A number of classic games also arrived, including:

  • Wing Commander Prophecy: 30th Anniversary Edition
  • Wing Commander & Wing Commander II (35th Anniversary Editions)
  • Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger: 30th Anniversary Edition
  • Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom: 30th Anniversary Edition
  • Privateer 2: The Darkening (30th Anniversary Editions)
  • Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition

As a result, Steam, the Epic Spel Launcher and GOG Galaxy will all be supported on Linux.

2027 will surely be the Year of Linux Gaming, right? I’m now allowed to actually make that claim.
