MW4 Season 1 adds several modes before launch and throughout the season, including returning favorites and new variations.
Pre-season modes:
- Possession (new mode releasing on Oct. 29): This Halloween-themed party mode lets players possess eliminated enemies, teleport to their locations, and steal their loadouts. Use the mechanic to reach objectives or clear bombsites, but choose your targets carefully because every elimination triggers possession.
- Infected (returning mode on Oct. 30): One player starts as Infected and must eliminate Survivors to expand the infected team. Infected players use a combat knife, Throwing Knife, and Ninja Perk, while Survivors have heavier weapons and defensive equipment. Infect everyone or survive until the end to win.
Season 1 launch modes:

- Drop Zone (returning mode): Teams fight over a rotating objective while periodic airdrops deliver Killstreak packages. Secure the area to collect random Killstreaks and use them to defend your position or break the enemy’s hold.
- Gauntlet 1v1 Gunfight (variant mode, limited-time mode): This LTM arrives through the Wager Match Event. Players wager Trophies, and the winner stays to face the next opponent. Win multiple matches to claim the rewards.
Mai mult modes will arrive during the mid-season update, including Counter Attack, which tasks teams with detonating bombs at enemy comm stations while defending their own. Another mode will introduce a new twist on Team Deathmatch, with additional modes planned for Season 1 Reloaded events.
