Xbox users have taken to Reddit this morning to voice frustrations over the forced swap of their beloved dynamic backgrounds for the Modern Warfare 4 key art to celebrate the release of the latest Call of Duty title.
This has happened because Xbox has snuck an extra checkbox into the Personalisation tab in settings, which enables “occasional event-themed backgrounds”. The swap occurs automatically because the checkbox is on by default.
So, here’s how to turn off the Modern Warfare 4 background:
- Open the Settings page on your Xbox
- Head to General > Personalisation
- Select My background
- Disable “Show event-themed backgrounds” checkbox
Admittedly, we were surprised by this too, as we’ve never seen Xbox do this before. The new event-themed backgrounds look like they’re here to stay. Our advice would be, if you want to avoid this kind of surprise again, to make sure that new checkbox is unchecked.
Personally, I don’t mind a little bit of themed celebration from Xbox. But, maybe just warn us next time, eh?
